Vegan Diet Is Better for the Environment: New Study Reveals!

Vegan Diet Is Better for the Environment

It might seem a bit exaggerated if I say that what you eat can impact your environment. But recent research points out that it is the fact. So now you think about biting down that large hamburger, just pause a moment and think about your environment.

A recent study found that a vegan diet can be more favorable to your environment than a Mediterranean diet. Wondering how? Dive right into the article and learn for yourself.

Vegan Diet Can Be More Eco-Friendly Than Mediterranean diet

Recent studies show that switching to a vegan diet might save the environment! The new research was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

The research was based on a one-week diet that covered around 2,000 calories per day.

Vegan Diet

The study selected two popular diets, Mediterranean and Vegan, and compared them both. The results of this found that a vegan diet is 44 percent better for the environment than a Mediterranean diet.

The only difference between these two diets was the inclusion of animal protein foods in the Mediterranean diet. While in the vegan diet, it is replaced by plant proteins. The researchers took into account a Life Cycle Assessment method for this study.

The research analyzed these diets based on the farm-to-table approach. This included many aspects such as food production, transportation, processing, etc. In total, the findings favored the vegan diet and it was found to have a minimal effect on the environment.

The Mediterranean diet made a major share of impact due to its inclusion of animal products. The research pointed out that even a minor consumption of animal products can be detrimental to human health and the environment.

According to the researchers behind this, a diet has a crucial impact on both health and the ecosystem. They undertook the study by selecting two sustainable diets with similar nutrients. The overall result leads to the point that replacing even a small caloric quota which is 10.6 percent of animal-based food products with plant-based ones had a significant impact on the environment.

Vegan Diet is Eco-Friendly

A vegan diet is not only advantageous for the environment. A previous study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition in 2021 elucidated that it provided better results compared to the Mediterranean in aiding weight loss.

According to the team of researchers behind the study, the research was based on a randomized, controlled trial. And the Mediterranean diet didn’t show any improvement in the case of weight loss among this group.

So these studies show that a plant-based diet can save the earth. It focuses on the need to change into this paradigm as soon as possible. So to keep a sustainable approach toward surroundings and oneself, it is wise to shift to a plant-based diet.
