Study Reveals Sexual Health Can Be Improved By Exercise

Everyone knows that exercise is important in our daily life, but we may not know why or how it works for us. It’s important to remember that we have evolved from nomadic ancestors who spend all their time traveling long distances every day in search of food and shelter. Our bodies are designed and evolved to be active on a regular basis.

Study Reveals Sexual Health Can Be Improved By Exercise

People are aware of how important exercises are for good health, even if they do not exercise regularly. However, they may not realize that being fit is important for better sexual health. According to the National Institutes of Health, 43% of women and 31% of men have some form of sexual dysfunction, obesity, and lack of exercise are often factors.

Study Reveals Sexual Health Can Be Improved By Exercise

A study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that men with a high waistline or a high BMI were 50% more likely to have erectile dysfunction, compared with about half of the obese women having problems eventually with sexual activity, desire, and performance in a study published in Obesity.

In contrast, women who exercised for up to six hours a week had lower sexual pain and resistance in the clitoral artery compared to women who did not exercise, according to a 2021 study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine and also the level of desire, lubrication, and orgasm was also found to be quiet high in the exercisers.

According to Dr. Karyn Eilber, a urologist at Los Angeles’ Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and a sexual wellness expert, it is truly a medical problem that has to be addressed as part of someone’s overall health and well-being and also says that there is still a stigma on the subject. As per Eilber and other experts, this topic shouldn’t be the case. Sex is an important part of being human, and its importance isn’t just about giving birth. Quality sexual behavior has a huge impact on mental and emotional health, quality of life, and the strength of close relationships. A series of studies support this. Exhibiting sex and affectionate touch is very important for many aspects of well-being, such as feeling understood, cared for, and accepted.

It is hard to ignore the health benefits provided by regular exercise and other physical activities. Almost everyone benefits from consistent exercise, regardless of age, gender, or physical ability, and your body and mind will also undergo certain changes.

  1. YOUR BLOOD CIRCULATION IS IMPROVED.

All aerobic exercise helps increase blood circulation or flow and ensures a healthy circulatory system. And strong, gentle blood flow is the key to pleasure. For men, it helps with erections and for women, it helps with vaginal lubrication and clitoris sensation.

  • INCREASES ENDURANCE.

Exercising regularly improves your endurance. Because sex itself is exercise, it’s important for your sexual health. The Mayo Clinic compares sexual activity to climbing two or three stairs. A study by the National Institutes of Health found that 30 minutes of sexual activity can burn 125 calories for men and nearly 100 calories for women, which is equivalent to walking at 3 miles per hour.

  • YOU WILL FEEL MORE CONFIDENT.

Establishing a routine exercise regimen will make you healthier and slimmer. This, in turn, improves self-esteem. According to Eilber, there is nothing sexier than confidence. In fact, a 2019 study published in the Journal of Personality found that women were more romantically interested in men with higher social confidence, whether that was innate or trained.

  • STRESS LEVELS ARE REDUCED.

Stress, anxiety, or depression can weaken your libido. A 2018 study published in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry found that depression is often particularly associated with sexual problems, and the more severe the depression, the worse the problem. This is especially true when it comes to sexual desire and satisfaction, according to research. Luckily, exercise is great for fighting stress, anxiety, and depression, which can revive your libido. Antidepressants are also notorious for negatively affecting libido, so it is even better if exercise can help lower your dose or get rid of it entirely.

  • IMPROVES OVERALL HEALTH.

Adopting a regular exercise program will improve your overall health. Exercise can also help prevent serious conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes that sometimes require drugs to suppress arousal. Both of these medical conditions can also damage the small arteries in the penis, causing erectile dysfunction. In fact, erectile dysfunction is one of the first noticeable side effects of high blood pressure and diabetes.

The amount of exercise required to improve a person’s sexual health depends on the individual. As per experts, even a short amount of exercise, such as regular walking, can improve your sex life. And they also suggest being careful not to overdo it. According to Eilber, there is something to the phrase ‘use it or lose it.’ She said that the pelvic organ is like any other body part, if you don’t use it, it loses its function.
